WordPress Plugins for Careers sites
One of the many benefits of choosing WordPress as the Content Management System for your careers site is the concept of “Plugins”
A WordPress Plugin is an easily installed 3rd party program (a bit like a mobile phone App), which extends and expands the functionality of WordPress. Plugins certainly have a wide variety of uses. At the time of writing the WordPress website listed 41,175 approved plugins, with an incredible combined download count of over 1 billion.
When we create a careers site using a WordPress theme, we use a combination of plugins, to provide a variety of different features on the site.
As we also publish an applicant tracking software system called Interview Coordinator, so we decided to create our own WordPress plugin which would help to integrate any WordPress site with Interview Coordinator.
The idea was to make it simple to attach a candidate application form to each job posting, so that when a candidate applied for an advertised vacancy, the form would automatically update the Interview Coordinator database with their application details.
However, as part of the development and testing procedures for the plugin, we also created a version which simply sent a notification email, containing the candidate contact details and a CV attachment, to pre-configured email address.
We got some feedback which indicated that this “test” plugin might be useful for people who do not want to fully integrate their website with a dedicated applicant tracking system and therefore released what we call the “Email notification” version of the plugin as a free download.
